This activity is intended for Texas dentists who have been certified to provide Level 1 dental sedation and who are in need CE credits for renewing a Texas Level 1 Dental Sedation Permit.
This CE course can also serve as a refresher course for dentists or dental assistants who are providing or participating in dental sedation and anesthesia.

BACKGROUND
There is a great interest in dental sedation and anesthesia due to patient demands and the desire for better patient satisfaction. Nevertheless, performing sedation and anesthesia is a daunting task for dentists while also performing dental work. Patient safety is a constant concern while performing sedation or anesthesia for dental procedures. Our CE courses intend to help dentists to meet such needs and challenges.
OBJECTIVE
After attending this activity, the participant should be able to demonstrate:
Improved competence in pre-anesthesia patient evaluation and identification of high risk patients for receiving dental sedation or anesthesia.
Improved patient instruction and preparation for dental sedation and anesthesia.
Improved physical and airway examination skills.
Greater confidence in identifying potential difficult airways and improved difficult airway management skills.
Better understanding of physiology, pharmacology, patient evaluation, and emergency preparation.
Curriculum
Curriculum 1A. This course is designed to focus on pre-anesthesia patient evaluation, patient selection as well as airway evaluation and difficult airway management
I. Pre-Anesthesia Patient Evaluation (2 hours)
II. Patient Instructions for Dental Sedation (0.5 h)
III. Physical Exam, (0.5 h)
IV. Airway Examination, Identify Potential Difficult Airways and Managing Difficult Airways (1h)
V. Practice managing airway on manikins and practice different airway devices (1h)
